Keeping our coops and grounds free of chicken waste is key to raising healthy chickens and ensuring they thrive. We have to shovel their droppings from the coop every day because they smell and attract flies and insects. Using sand is a good solution to minimize odors in the coop. Farmers should study how to use chicken manure. For example, they can use chicken manure as fertilizer for crops (which form compost after sitting for a few months). Composted chicken manure is an excellent fertilizer for vegetables, herbs, trees and other crops. It provides nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium while amending the soil in various ways. Note that you can collect coop litter (sand, straw, sawdust) along with chicken waste and put all of the above in the compost bin.
